Overview:

According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha visited Sri Lanka three times — each journey meant to stop internal conflicts and restore harmony.

The first visit is linked to Mahiyangana, where the country’s first stupa was built. The second visit is associated with Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara.

The third visit took place in the far north on Nagadipa Island, where the Buddha is said to have reconciled rival rulers.

Itinerary:

Day 1. Airport – Colombo

Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Meet-and-greet in the arrivals area and private transfer to your hotel in Colombo. After some rest, enjoy a city tour of Sri Lanka’s commercial capital: Gangaramaya Temple, Victoria Park, Independence Square, Galle Face Green promenade, and the Lotus Tower viewpoint. Return to the hotel. Dinner at a restaurant in Colombo (at your own expense). Overnight in Colombo.

Day 2. Colombo – Kelaniya – Kandy

Breakfast at the hotel. Free time to recover after the flight. Around 11:00, depart for Kelaniya, traditionally connected with the Buddha’s second visit. Visit Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, one of Sri Lanka’s most revered temples, famous for its murals and spiritual atmosphere. Continue to the Kandy area. Check-in at a boutique hotel set among hills and tropical gardens. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Kandy. Accommodation: Aarunya Resort & Spa 5*, Sky Habitat with Private Plunge Pool.

Day 3. The First Visit — Mahiyangana and return to Kandy

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Mahiyangana, associated with the Buddha’s first visit to the island. Visit Mahiyanganaya Stupa, one of the key early Buddhist shrines in Sri Lanka. Meditation in the sacred space can be arranged. Optional: introduction to the culture of the Vedda (indigenous community of Sri Lanka): traditions, daily life, oral heritage. Return to Kandy. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4. Kandy – Dambulla – Sigiriya

Breakfast. Check-out and drive toward Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. Visit Dambulla Golden Cave Temple (UNESCO): cave shrines, ancient murals, and Sri Lanka’s largest collection of Buddha statues. Meditation can be arranged upon request. Drive to Sigiriya. Check-in, отдых, dinner.
Overnight in Sigiriya. Accommodation: Water Garden Resort & Spa 5*, Deluxe Villa.

Day 5. Sigiriya – Mihintale – Anuradhapura

Breakfast. Early start for the climb to Sigiriya (Lion Rock): the 5th-century fortress ruins, gardens, and frescoes. Return to the hotel, rest, check-out. Drive to Mihintale, considered the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka (linked by tradition to the meeting between King Devanampiyatissa and Monk Mahinda). Visit the complex; meditation can be arranged. Arrival in Anuradhapura. Check-in and dinner. Overnight in Anuradhapura. Accommodation: Uga Ulagalla Resort & Spa 5*, Ulagalla Pool Villa.

Day 6. Anuradhapura – Jaffna

Breakfast. Continue exploring Anuradhapura — an ancient capital and major pilgrimage city. Visit key sites and set aside time for meditation. Drive north to Jaffna. Check-in and dinner. Overnight in Jaffna. Accommodation: Fox Resort, Superior Room.

Day 7. Jaffna: forts, temples, sacred sites and natural landmarks

Breakfast. Full-day excursion in Jaffna and surroundings: Jaffna Fort, Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, Sangiliyan Thoppu, Nilavarai Bottomless Well, Point Pedro, Keerimalai Hot Springs. Return to the hotel. Dinner. Overnight in Jaffna. Accommodation: Fox Resort Jaffna, Superior Room.

Day 8. Delft Island – Nagadipa Island (the Third Visit)

Breakfast. Transfer to the port and boat trip to Delft Island: untouched landscapes, colonial remnants, wild horses, and an island safari. Then continue by boat to sacred Nagadipa Island, linked in chronicles to the Buddha’s third visit. Visit Nagadipa Vihara and, optionally, Sri Naga Pooshani Amman Temple. Meditation in the sacred space. Return to Jaffna. Dinner. Overnight in Jaffna. Accommodation: Fox Resort Jaffna, Superior Room.

Day 9. Jaffna – Wilpattu – Munneswaram – Waikkal

Early start. Check-out, packed breakfast. En route: jeep safari in Wilpattu National Park (natural “villu” lakes, dry-zone forests, wildlife). Then visit the Munneswaram Temple Complex. Arrival in Waikkal. Check-in, отдых by the Indian Ocean, dinner. Overnight in Waikkal. Accommodation: Wattura Resort & Spa 5*, Suite.

Day 10. Waikkal – leisure or transfer

Breakfast at the hotel. Continued отдых or transfer to the airport / Negombo / Colombo.
